Media Vibes

I think that we can all come to an agreement that social media has given us all more to "chat" about now, than it ever did ten years ago. Introduced to the social web as a 90s baby, I did not know much more about the Internet, other than it was a tool that could be used to do basic research on certain topics that I had no knowledge of. Grade school always forced projects and other things that encouraged students to do research and citations from the web, making the introduction a bit easier to handle. Once college set in, the World Wide Web started to become a place not only to do research, but a place where we would always hold dependence and never want to leave. Can social media be intrusive on our daily lives? Of course, but the real struggle is trying to figure out where we can find balance between what is reality and what is not. We need to be very mindful of what we share on the web because our followers will always hold us responsible for how we represent ourselves. It doesn't all have to be about gossip and celebrity news, but these social media outlets also bring to us these inspiring stories that we view on the daily. Stories that make us have the compassion to push ourselves to be the best that we can be, even though we face challenges every hour of every day. Despite Multiple Sclerosis, Kayla Montgomery keeps running. This significant event that was viewed on social media by millions, exposed many who are unaware of these great miracles that actually do happen, to the dreams of others that have been reached wishfully and successfully. However; As a strong willed society, we may need to teach ourselves how to pace each and every generation carefully, and observe the amount of time and effort that we dedicate our social lives to the media through these apps. Not only are these social outlets designed to give us "something to do" when we have a free moment, but they are designed to distract us in a world that has overwhelmed our brains with spilling information from the media. Our social networks will always keep us in the loop of what is happening on the other side of the world, filling our minds with more information than we could ever imagine possible. Whether we choose to believe or not believe how much our lives really are linked with the power of social media each day, we need to take into consideration how we were raised and what day and age we live in now. We can't escape "life" and prevent it from happening, but we can choose if we are effected by it in a positive or negative way. Everybody needs to learn how to be the leaders of leading by example, not the followers. Social media will always be among us, and soon enough it will hold all power to mankind.
